According to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, for the period from 2015 to 2019, the volume of Ukrainian exports, which account for 99.9% of bilateral trade, increased from 10.1 million USD to 27.3 million USD.
Despite the unfavorable financial and economic situation caused by the coronavirus pandemic, Ukraine in 2020 exported 26.3 million USD worth of goods to Palestine (96.4% of the figures for 2019).
Its general structure includes the following main product groups: fats and oils of animal or vegetable origin - 32.7%; products of the flour and cereal industry - 31.0%; sugar and confectionery - 14.2%; finished grain products - 7.5%; plastics and polymeric materials - 3.8%.
At the same time, the diversification of the range of goods increased: while in 2019 the two main groups (fats and oils of animal or vegetable origin and products of the flour and cereal industry) accounted for 77.8% of total Ukrainian exports, in 2020 their share decreased to 63.7%. Instead, the percentage of sugar and confectionery, as well as plastics and polymeric materials, has noticeably increased.
The real figures of trade are much higher, as statistics do not always show Palestine as a separate customs territory, and many goods from Ukraine are imported through Israel and other countries. According to the Palestinian side, the annual volume of imported goods of Ukrainian origin is 85-90 million USD.
Indicators of product categories also differ. Unlike the above-mentioned indicators of the State Statistics Committee, Palestinian data define the following main categories of goods of Ukrainian origin: ferrous metals - 46.1%; products of the flour and cereal industry - 35.4%; fats and oils of animal or vegetable origin - 14.1%; sugar and confectionery - 0.8%; wood and wood products - 0.8%.
Given the general structure of Palestinian imports and the main groups of Ukrainian export today, the following categories are considered promising for its expansion and diversification:
- animal feed;
- electrical equipment;
- live animals;
- dairy products, eggs, honey;
- poultry meat;
Export potential of Palestine is rather limited, which is seen from the small volume and range of goods supplied in general, and to Ukraine in particular (1.1 thousand USD in 2020). Nevertheless, there are products in Palestine which may be of interest to Ukrainian importers: dates, olive oil, citrus, berries and herbs.
The volume of commercial services provided by Ukraine in 2020 amounted to 847.5 thousand USD (81% of the figures for 2019), Palestinian commercial services - 44.7 thousand USD.
In 2018, a delegation of the Hebron Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the economic and financial center of Palestine, visited Kyiv, where the first Ukrainian-Palestinian business forum took place.
